To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he proposes to review the scheme for severe weather payments when sufficient experience of its operation during the current winter is available; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Portillo

The Social Security Bill contains a provision for help to continue to be given towards the cost of heating in cold weather from next winter. The precise details of the new arrangemens will be decided in the light of experience this winter.
