HC Deb 12 January 1988 vol 125 c191W
Mr. Parry

To ask the Prime Minister if she will make a statement on her recent visit to Nigeria.

The Prime Minister

I paid a visit to Nigeria on 7 and 8 January at the invitation of President Babangida. In the course of this I had a long and very useful talk with the President, which covered all aspects of our bilateral relations as well as regional and international questions. I took the opportunity to express our strong support for Nigeria's economic recovery programme. I also put on record publicly the very positive practical contribution which Britain is making in southern Africa. I believe that the visit has contributed to strengthening our relations. I am particularly grateful for the very warm and friendly welcome which I received from many thousands of ordinary people.
