To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the future of Magnox reprocessing at British Nuclear Fuels Ltd., Sellafield, following the publication on 14 December by the Health and Safety Executive of the report on safety revision at Sellafield arising from the Health and Safety Executive safety audit at Sellafield, issued in December 1986.

Reprocessing is a proven and safe technology which keeps open the possibility for recycling valuable uranium and plutonium as fuel.

BNF plc, of course, like any other licensed nuclear operator, must continue to meet the requirements of the independent Health and Safety Executive.
