HC Deb 29 February 1988 vol 128 cc416-7W
30. Mr. Riddick

To ask the Lord President of the Council if he has any proposals to change the arrangements for the cheque encashment service at the Post Office in the Palace of Westminster; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wakeham

There are at present no proposals to alter the long-standing arrangements for cheque encashment at the post offices in the Members' Lobby and the Central Lobby. However, following representations from the Post Office, the Services Committee recommended on 2 February that the fee for cashing non-standard "club" cheques should be increased to £1.25 from 1 April 1988. Normal cheques will continue to be charged at the present rate of 20p per cheque. The increased fee for club cheques was approved by the House of Commons Commission on 8 February 1988, on the basis of the long-standing policy that Members and others should pay the going rate for this service.
