HC Deb 26 February 1988 vol 128 cc375-6W
Mr. McNamara

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proposals exist for helping small road transport companies meet the additional costs of adapting existing computing systems to handle the new single administrative document under the Customs '88 project.

Mr. Lilley

[holding answer 22 February 1988]: The introduction of the single administrative document has given firms the opportunity to simplify their procedures and review their arrangements for producing Customs declarations. There are no plans to meet any transitional costs incurred from public funds.

Mr. McNamara

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what special provisions have been made to help small businesses engaged in road transport since the adoption of the single administrative document under the Customs '88 project.

Mr. Lilley

[holding reply 22 February 1988]: The launch of Customs '88 was preceded by a two-year publicity campaign which provided the information necessary for all businesses to prepare themselves. It has not been necessary to make special arrangements to help small businesses engaged in road transport.
