Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list all individuals and organisations he has met since June 1987 in order to discuss competitive tendering in hospital services, together with the date of those meetings.

On 13 August 1987 I met Mr. Murray and Mr. Howell of the British Hostels, Restaurants and Caterers Association and Mr. Hall, Mr. Bisley and Mrs. McVee of the Contract Cleaning and Maintenance Association. On 15 September 1987 I had discussions with Mr. Rawlings, Mr. Colling and Mr. Slark of the Association of British Laundry, Cleaning and Rental Services. I have also discussed competitive tendering with health board chairmen. As a result of these exchanges I asked the Scottish Home and Health Department to arrange the seminar on competitive tendering held on 2 October 1987.
