To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what action he is taking to tackle promotion disparities favouring non-Catholics among educationally qualified entrants to the Northern Ireland Civil Service.

As indicated in the reports produced by the equal opportunities unit of the Department of Finance and Personnel, monitoring of the outcome of promotion procedures forms part of the comprehensive monitoring arrangements introduced in respect of the Northern Ireland Civil Service. If this monitoring should indicate that there are promotion disparities attributable to religious affiliation, appropriate remedial action will be instituted.
