HC Deb 25 February 1988 vol 128 cc291-2W
Mr. Sheerman

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the amount of money in per head of population spent on tourism promotion in each of the English regions, by region, and for Scotland and Wales(a) on promotion abroad and (b) on promotion within the United Kingdom.

Mr. Lee

I regret that figures for the English regions are not available in the form requested and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. The figures show per capital expenditure (in the current financial year) by the national tourist boards on all activities in Britain and that by the British Tourist Authority, which has overall responsibility for the overseas promotion of tourism to the whole of Britain. The only national tourist board empowered to promote overseas is the Scottish board.
