HC Deb 25 February 1988 vol 128 c304W
Mr. Meacher

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the expansion of the money supply, using each of the main monetary indicators, for each quarter since May 1979, as a percentage of the figure one year previously.

Mr. Lilley

Quarterly figures for M0, the main narrow measure of the money supply, were published in the 1988 edition ofEconomic Trends Annual Supplement for the period 1982 Q3 to 1987 Q3. Earlier quarterly figures have not been published. Figures for M0 in 1987 Q4 can be derived as the average of the monthly figures in table 11.4 of Financial Statistics, February 1988.

Quarterly figures for broad money back to 1979 were made available by the Bank of England in June 1987. Subsequent figures for broad money are shown in tables 11.2 and 11.3 of Financial Statistics, February 1988.
