§ Mr. Allan StewartTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the development of Queen's college, Glasgow.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythMy Department has today written to Queen's college, Glasgow, indicating that after consultation with the Greater Glasgow health board, I am prepared to agree to the proposed transfer of radiography, chiropody and occupational therapy courses from the board to the centrally funded higher education sector.
The college is being asked to confirm that it wishes to assume responsibility for these courses. If so, I am prepared to make capital funds available in 1988–89 for the adaptation, after consultation with the governors of Jordanhill college of education, of accommodation at Jordanhill to allow its use for Queen's college's purposes.
Given the availability of good quality accommodation at Jordanhill, I will not now be making funds available for the development of the Eldon street site, and I am asking the governors to make arrangements for its early disposal.
