To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent representations he has received about the provision of rail links between the regions and the Channel tunnel; and if he will make a statement.

I have received a number of representations about this issue. It is British Rail's responsibility to plan the provision of rail links to the tunnel. Section 40 of the Channel Tunnel Act requires it to publish a plan setting out its proposals by the end of 1989.
