§ 39. Mr. EvennettTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied with the speed and manner in which passport applications and renewals are currently being processed.
§ Mr. RentonWith the exception of the London passport office, where continuing heavy demand is causing some abnormal delays, the passport offices are processing straightforward, non-urgent passport applications for all types well within the four-week minimum period of notice specified on passport application forms. Urgent applications are given priority.
Computerisation of the passport issuing system, which is due to commence at the Glasgow passport office in the late summer of this year, extending to all offices by the end of 1989, should speed up the passport-issuing process and reduce delays.
