Mr. Ralph Howell

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will update the information in his reply to the hon. Member for Norfolk, North of 22 April 1987,Official Report, column 638, about the average price of wheat received by the producer in the United Kingdom, Germany, and France (a) in national currency and (b) converted to £ sterling at the market rates prevailing on the latest date for which this information is available.

[holding answer 16 February 1988]: Producer prices are not available for the three countries. For the week ending 31 January 1988 market prices for milling wheat were as shown below:

Member for Norfolk, North of 11 March 1987,Official Report, columns 228–29, about the average ex-farm price of wheat received by (a) British farmers, (b) French farmers and (c) German farmers, as well as the average intervention price for common wheat, in 1979, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987, in £ sterling.

[holding answer 16 February 1988]: The information requested by my hon. Friend is not yet available for the 1986–87 and 1987–88 marketing years. I set out in the table the information for the 1979–80 and 1983–84, 1984–85 and 1985–86 marketing years. Ex-farm prices for the European Community as a whole are not available.
