§ Mr. AtkinsonTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he has an estimate of the number of deaths of skiers at British ski resorts which could have been avoided by wearing safety helmets, and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RidleyThe Government have no such estimate. In th 1986–87 season there were five deaths at ski resorts in Britain. Only one of these was from a fall in which head and other injuries were sustained. It is not possible to say whether this death could have been prevented by the wearing of a safey helmet.
