15. Mr. Evennett

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what recent discussions he has had with the chairman of the Central Electricity Generating Board and area electricity boards concerning privatisation of the electricity supply industry.

Mr. Parkinson

I met the chairman of the area boards as a group last month and I meet Lord Marshall, chairman of the CEGB, regularly to discuss privatisation of the electricity supply industry.

19. Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the implications of the Government's policy of privatisation of the electricity generation industry for the nuclear component of that industry.

Mr. Parkinson

Proposals for the privatisation of the electricity supply industry are still under consideration.

The Government will announce their plans for the industry, including the implications for nuclear generation, in due course.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a further statement on his plans for the privatisation of electricity.

32. Dr. Reid

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a further statement on the progress of Government plans to privatise the electricity industry.

Mr. Parkinson

Proposals for privatisation are still under consideration and no final decisions have been taken. The Government will announce their plans for the electricity supply industry in due course.

28. Mr. Dunnachie

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has as to the cost to the taxpayer of the present advertising campaign by the electricity supply industry for electricity; and if he will seek to limit expenditure on such advertising during the approach to privatisation.

Mr. Parkinson

This is a matter for the industry; I have asked the chairman of the Electricity Council to write to the hon. Member.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy when he expects to publish his White Paper on electricity privatisation.

Mr. Parkinson

The Government are still considering whether to publish a White Paper.

33. Mr. Prescott

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy when he last met the Central Electricity Generating Board chairman; and what decision he has reached on the board's advice on the privatisation of the electricity supply industry.

Mr. Parkinson

I meet Lord Marshall, chairman of the Central Electricity Generating Board, regularly to discuss privatisation of the electricity supply industry. No final decisions have been taken on the privatisation of the industry.

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy when and in what form he now expects to announce his proposals for the privatisation of the electricity industry.

Mr. Haynes

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy when he expects to announce his plans for electricity privatisation, in the light of his recent public statement.

Mr. Parkinson

The Government will announce their plans for privatisation of the electricity supply industry in due course.
