Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what is the structure proposed by the Scottish Development Agency that will allow the repayment of its investment in Shaw Medical Centre Ltd. made necessary by the cash risk after the first year;

(2) what financial support is being given by the Scottish Development Agency to the Shaw Medical Centre Ltd.; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

The Scottish Development Agency's dealings with companies are conducted in confidence and are not disclosed except in cases where the agency holds more than 20 per cent. of the voting rights, and where the total investment is in excess of £100,000. In these cases a report is made in the agency's annual report. Any investment made by the agency will be in accord with the investment guidelines laid down by my right hon. and learned Friend and will take into account the needs of the company.
