To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will make a statement on the level of trade deficit with an inward flow of capital from Japan in 1987.

The United Kingdom trade deficit with Japan in 1987 totalled £3,968 million, on an OTS basis, exports and imports reaching £1,495 million and £5,463 million respectively.

The United Kingdom does not compile comprehensive statistics on flows of capital between the United Kingdom and other individual countries.
