To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will carry out an early review of the voucher system at present operating with regard to optical appliances.

The voucher system has been a great success. In the White Paper, "Promoting Better Health", we said that we would,give special consideration to the voucher values for those with the poorest sight; extend the repair/replacement facility to adults who are prone to frequent breakages on account of handicap; allow vouchers to be used for contact lenses.

These changes will come in on 1 April.
