§ Mr. FauldsTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in view of the finding of the Select Committee on Foreign Affairs that by most criteria the southern sector of Cyprus is no longer eligible for economic aid, how much money will be applied in future in aid to or for the benefit of Greek Cypriots.
§ Mr. Chris PattenBilateral aid is provided on a Government-to-Government basis. Our bilateral aid to Cyprus in 1986–87 was £222,000. We expect to spend about the same in 1987–88.
§ Mr. FauldsTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he will take to increase aid to the Turkish Cypriots, in the light of their lower per capita income than Greek Cypriots.
§ Mr. Chris PattenI refer the hon. Member to paragraphs 7–9 of the Government's observations on the third report of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Session 1986–87, on Cyprus (Cm. 232).
