§ Lord Hyltonasked Her Majesty's Government:
What plans they are considering for disposing of HMS Dreadnought and other old and obsolete nuclear-powered submarines; and what consultations they are having, at both national and international level, on questions of safety and the avoidance of pollution which might arise.
§ The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)No decisions have yet been taken on the preferred disposal route for reactors from decommissioned nuclear submarines. A number of options are being considered and the safety and environmental implications of these will of course form part of the Government's deliberations. Once a preferred option has been identified, the Government will be in a position to consider what further consultations are necessary.
