To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) whether Her Majesty's Government will fully fund the 1988–89 Health Service workers' pay deal;

(2) whether Her Majesty's Government will pay the 1988–89 Health Service workers' pay rise from 1 April.

The additional funds which health authorities have been given for 1988–89 are intended to cover all pay and price rises. The Government will await the recommendations of the review bodies before taking any decisions on implementation and funding.
