§ Mr. BerminghamTo ask the Attorney-General how many persons are employed in the Crown court sections of the Crown prosecution service, area by area; and how many in each area are legally qualified as either solicitor or barrister-at-law.
§ The Attorney-GeneralCrown court sections within the Crown prosecution service are staffed by law clerks supported by administrative staff. The function of law clerks is to prepare papers for counsel, liaise with the police, and to represent the Crown prosecution service in court. It is not a requirement that they should hold legal 43W qualifications. The numbers of law clerks employed in the Crown court sections are detailed on the attached schedule.
