To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what dispensation was given in August 1986 to farmers in the restricted areas, following the Chernobyl accident, to leave their sheep unmarked.

There was no dispensation to allow unmarked sheep to be moved from the restricted areas except in the case of movement of breeding stock to recognised breeding sales.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many sheep without markings were authorised by his Department to be recalled from auction marts in or around the restricted areas following the Chernobyl accident in August and September 1986.
