§ Mr. LeeOver the 12 months to September 1987, the net increase in employment in the northern region is estimated to have been 12,000. This figure covers both employees in employment and the self-employed.
§ 68. Dr. ReidTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the percentage increase in jobs created in the northern region since 1979.
§ Mr. LeeThere are no figures for job gains and job losses. Between September 1979 and September 1987, the latest date for which figures are available, the civilian employed labour force in the northern region showed a net decrease of 9 per cent. The figure is unadjusted for the effects of seasonal variations.
The civilian employed labour force is the sum of employees in employment and the self employed.
