HC Deb 02 February 1988 vol 126 c529W
Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many(a) burglaries, and (b) street attacks there were in 1985 and 1986; what is the estimated figure for 1987; and if he will make a statement about current proposals to deal with these crimes.

Mr. John Patten

Numbers of offences of burglary and robbery recorded by the police in 1985, 1986, and the first three quarters of 1987 were published in a "Home Office Statistical Bulletin" issue number 38/87 in December 1987, copies of which are in the Library. Figures for the whole of 1987 are not yet available.

We shall continue to encourage and support a coordinated approach to crime prevention at national and local level disseminating advice on how to reduce opportunities for these and other crimes to occur. We shall also continue to make provision for a strong and efficient police service.
