HC Deb 01 February 1988 vol 126 c490W
Mr. Cormack

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will use some of the funds made available to correct the error in the retail prices index, as announced to the House on 18 December 1987, to provide extra provision for the more elderly war widows who do not receive Ministry of Defence pensions or other forms of compensation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will use some of its funds made available to correct the error in the retail prices index, as announced to the House on 18 December 1987, to provide extra provision for the more elderly war widows who do not receive Ministry of Defence pensions or other forms of compensation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Scott

Payments will be made to war widows to compensate them for the error in the retail prices index. The money available to correct this error could not provide for improvements in war widows pensions provisions.
