HC Deb 01 February 1988 vol 126 c461W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what measures he will be taking to publicise the work of the Overseas Development Natural Resources Institute with a view to securing substantial outside funding for its work.

Mr. Chris Patten

As the ODA's own scientific unit, the ODNRI's resources form part of the ODA's total running costs. Ninety per cent. of the institute's work is commissioned by the ODA itself. The remainder is carried out on full repayment terms under contract to outside clients, typically the multilateral aid agencies. The institute is well known to potential external clients by virtue of its reputation as a world centre of excellence. The results of its work are normally published. Its activities are always featured in the ODA's annual review and a separate annual report covering the institute's work is published each year. Copies of the latest edition of these two publications are in the Library of the House.
