To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will publish the guidelines for the sale of the National Bus Company's subsidiaries, particularly with respect to any policy regarding the immediate sale or disposal of assets by the purchaser.

A copy of the National Bus Company's disposal programme is in the Library of the House.

In general, NBC does not seek to prevent the sale or disposal of particular assets by purchasers of subsidiaries; rationalisation or replacement of assets will often be part of the companies' plans for the successful continuation of bus services.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the undertaking given by Her Majesty's Government during the passage of the Transport Act 1985 relating to the sale of assets by private buyers of National Bus Companies.

I am not aware of any such undertakings.
