HC Deb 01 February 1988 vol 126 c425W
Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he decided to allow Mr. Hui YatChi to remain in the United Kingdom; why he did not notify the hon. Member for Bradford, West of his decision; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Renton

On 23 June 1987, I wrote to the hon. Member to advise him that Mr. Hui's immigration status was under investigation and said I would write to him again if it was decided to remove Mr. Hui from this country. In the event, inquiries by the immigration service established that Mr. Hui entered this country lawfully and was deemed to have indefinite leave to remain here. Mr. Hui's representatives were notified of this on 28 November 1987.
