To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has met the chairman of London Regional Transport to discuss the safety implications of planned London Regional Transport investment in automatic ticketing systems.

No. London Underground Limited is responsible for the design of this system and its safe operation. I have no reason to believe that the system, for which financial approval was given in 1985, is unsafe. If the hon. Lady has a particular cause of concern perhaps she will write to me.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proportion of planned London Regional Transport capital investment is devoted to the installation of automatic ticketing systems.
