HC Deb 22 December 1988 vol 144 c409W
Mr. Thurnham

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what is the current estimate for roadbuilding work in the north-west during 1988–89; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

We expect to spend some £90 million this year on building, improving, and maintaining trunk roads and motorways in the north-west. This includes £39 million on the seven major contracts I mentioned when answering my hon. Friend's question of 28 November 1988 at column425.

We are also supporting expenditure on the region's more important local roads through some £25 million of transport supplementary grant.
