Health Service hospices to obtain necessary drugs under the National Health Service; and whether he has any plans to make present arrangements more effective.

Mr. Mellor

We are aware that some hospices fund current arrangements insufficiently flexible, and the scope for improvements is under consideration.

Ms. Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many medical directors of the 75 independent hospices in England and Wales do not have the right to prescribe drugs and appliances under the National Health Service for patients in their care.

Mr. Mellor

We do not collect this information centrally.
