§ 8. Mr. Foulkes
To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when construction work will commence on phase II of Kilroot power station.

§ Mr. Viggers
No decision has yet been taken on this matter. On current planning assumptions, Kilroot II will be needed by 1995–96 and construction work should begin by 1992. The start of construction would be brought forward if there was a decision to make the station available earlier or if flue gas desulphurisation plant had to be installed. Both these issues are under consideration at present.
