Mr. O'Neill

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make it his policy to request all his grade 2 Crown servants and above to give their permission for their names to be revealed on a confidential basis to the Select Committee on Defence, it they apply for permission to accept an outside appointment.

Mr. Sainsbury

The Select Committee asked to be provided with information of this nature in its ninth report in the Session 1987–88. The Government expect to publish their response to that report early in the new year.
