HC Deb 22 December 1988 vol 144 cc462-3W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what was the number of claimants whose eligibility for state benefit was investigated via the unemployment benefit office because they did not satisfactorily complete(a) restart interview forms and (b) the availability for work forms, for each year since 1985 and for the latest available dates in 1988.

Mr. Lee

No claimant has their eligibility for benefits investigated simply because they have not satisfactorily completed a form. Cases may be referred for investigation if doubts arise about the claimant's availability for work. Referral would have to be considered if a claimant refused to supply information which was needed to confirm their availability.
