To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list in theOfficial Report the current manning levels of police forces in each regional authority area; and what are the recommended manning levels.

The establishments authorised by my right hon. and learned Friend are shown below together with actual strengths as at 30 September 1988.

During the past 12 months the following forces have requested establishment increases:

After careful consideration and taking account of advice from Her Majesty's chief inspector of constabulary all these increases in establishment were authorised by my right hon. and learned Friend.
