To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis on whether any plans exist to use officers from the Metropolitan police on the London Underground system during the Christmas period; and if he will make a statement.

The London Underground is policed by British Transport police, who are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Transport. There is close liaison between British Transport police and the Metropolitan police and I understand from the commissioner that, as at other times of the year, officers of the Metropolitan police will be available over the Christmas period to assist British Transport police officers on the Underground if the need arises.
