To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many new cases of(a) glaucoma and (b) blindness were treated in (i) Scotland, (ii) Strathclyde and (iii) Glasgow for each year since 1975.

Information on new cases of glaucoma and blindness is not available centrally. The number of in-patient discharges from hospital where the main diagnosis was glaucoma is shown below. This represents, however, only part of the glaucoma caseload as some treatment is provided on an out-patient basis.
