To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on Liverpool city council's participation in the employment training scheme.

Mr. Nicholls

Liverpool city council is not taking part in employment training. Indeed, the council decided to punish local voluntary organisations and employers which did want to participate and the High Court has now ruled that this action is unlawful. Unlike Liverpool city council, the Government will continue to provide help through the quality training opportunities offered through employment training.
