HC Deb 01 December 1988 vol 142 cc334-5W
Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list all contracts for domestic services let by competitive tendering to outside operators within each of the regional health authorities in Scotland, together with their costs, for the period 1 October 1985 to 30 September 1988, showing in each case the cost of provision of the same services in the last year before competitive tendering was introduced.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

During this period contracts producing annual savings of over £2 million were awarded by the following boards:

Number
Fife 1
Grampian 2
Greater Glasgow 3
Lothian 2
Tayside 1

Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what instructions he has given to health boards concerning putting out annually services as an all-in package to competitive tendering.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

None. Health boards know they must explore the scope for achieving value for money and improved services through the further development of competitive tendering. This is what they are now doing.
