On 20 April a Royal Air Force Phantom FGI of 43 Squadron, RAF Leuchars crashed into the North sea during the course of the air defence exercise Elder Forest. Tragically, both crew were killed in the incident.

The Royal Air Force has convened a board of inquiry into this accident, which will examine fully all the circumstances with a view to establishing its cause, and preventing a recurrence. A summary of the board's findings will be published in due course in the usual way.
