To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services on what date in 1987 an application was received from the National Childbirth Trust for a three-year grant commencing on 1 October 1987; for what amount the application was made; what previous grants have been made to this group; and when he expects a final decision on the current application to be made.

An initial application from the National Childbirth Trust for section 64 funding for a further three years was received early in April 1987. The relevant financial information was not received until September 1987.

The request was for:

  • £58,000 for 1987–88
  • £62,000 for 1988–89
  • £65,000 for 1989–90
  • or alternatively a sum of £62,000 for each of the three years 1987–88 to 1989–90 inclusive.

Previous grants to the Trust were:—

  • £2,500 for 1977–78
  • £10,000 for 1978–79
  • £10,000 for 1979–80
  • £11,250 for 1980–81
  • £15,000 for 1981–82
  • £15,000 for 1982–83
  • £15,000 for 1983–84
  • £55,000 for 1984–85
  • £58,000 for 1985–86
  • £42,000 for 1986–87
  • £31,000 for 1987–88
