§ Mr. Robert BanksTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what cost savings have been made by the relocation of Government agencies to the regions since 1979.
§ Mr. BrookeThe information could be obtained only at disproportionate cost, since no records are kept centrally of cost savings from relocations by central Government agencies. However, a recent report has been submitted to my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland evaluating the dispersal of part of the Overseas Development Administration from central London to East Kilbride in 1981. This offers evidence of the significant financial and other advantages which can be obtained through relocation. I understand that my right hon. and learned Friend intends to publish this report in the near future.
