Mr. Tom Clarke

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table in theOfficial Report for each district authority in Scotland for the latest year for which figures are available, showing (a) the electorate and estimated population, (6) expenditure per elector on environmental health services, housing maintenance, leisure and recreation, (c) the level of district rate and rate support grant, (d) the number of council houses and the average rent and (e) the number of new council houses completed.

Notes:

1. Expenditure on environmental health services and leisure and recreation is based on provisional outturns.

2. Housing maintenance expenditure is the budgeted expenditure reported in "Rating review" published by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (C.I.P.F.A.).

3. Rate poundage after selective action.

4. R.S.G. is after abatement. The figures are R.S.G. entitlements based on provisional expenditure outturns. An Order to give effect to them will be laid shortly.

5. The electoral roll figures exclude attainers which numbered about 62,000 in 1987–88.
