HC Deb 27 April 1988 vol 132 cc182-3W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what changes he proposes to introduce to the cost-floor sale in relation to the sale of council-owned houses; and in what way he proposes to ensure that such changes do not cause an unacceptable reduction in the public sector rented housing stock in rural areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Mr. Grist

An amendment to the Housing Bill has been tabled which provides that only costs which have been incurred within eight years before the sale will be taken into account in calculating the cost floor.

This modification will enable more tenants to buy their own homes. In areas of outstanding natural beauty, national parks and designated rural areas the opportunity will remain for landlords to repurchase a property if it is resold within 10 years.
