To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his policy toward promoting visits by Members of Parliament to defence establishments at home and abroad.

Mr. Freeman

I welcome the interest which has been shown by hon. and right hon. Members in visiting defence establishments. Opportunities exist for hon. and right hon. Members to undertake such visits as part of all-party parliamentary groups, whose planned visits are periodic-ally drawn to their attention.

Hon. and right hon. Members are also encouraged to visit defence establishments within their own constituency by prior arrangement with the armed forces units concerned.
