To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, pursuant to the reply by the joint Under-Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Southampton, Itchen (Mr. Chope) to the hon. Member for Hendon, South (Mr. Marshall) on 20 April,Official Report, column 824, he will now give details of the information he has received from his regional office in Nottingham regarding the level of rate set for two successive financial years by the Melton borough council.

Information on local rates is collected centrally, not by regional offices. Listed below are the rates levied in Melton in the last two years, from which it will be seen that the district rate for Melton borough council has been zero in both years. The local rate has been made up entirely of special expenses in Melton Mowbray and parish precepts.
