HC Deb 25 April 1988 vol 132 cc73-4W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received concerning the cleanliness of the flags at the entrance to Horseguards parade; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Freeman

Only one representation has been received from a member of the public concerning the cleanliness of the flags at the entrance to Horse Guards parade. Every effort is made to maintain the flags in a reasonable state, both those that are flown continually and those flown only on certain occasions. The flags are cleaned regularly, repaired as necessary and replaced once past economic repair. On certain ceremonial occasions, such as Her Majesty The Queen's birthday parade, a new Union flag is used.
