Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many Mini and Renault 4 cars held by his Department in store have been sold in each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Chope

There are no Minis or Renault 4s held in store. Since 1982, the earliest year for which records are available, the Crown Suppliers have disposed of 45 Austin Rover Minis by auction.

Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment for what purpose his Department maintains Mini and Renault 4 cars in store; and how many are kept.

Mr. Chope

The Crown Suppliers — an operating trading fund of the Department of the Environment— have no Minis in store. They have six Austin Rover Minis on hire to, and operated by, Government Departments, and hold two as operational reserves. No Renault 4s are held.

Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the annual cost to his Department of maintaining Mini and Renault 4 cars, including respectively the cost of(a) rental and (b) updating Ministry of Transport tests.

Mr. Chope

The estimated annual cost of repair and maintenance for the Austin Rover Minis currently operated by the Crown Suppliers is £2,800 pa—£350 per vehicle. There are no Renault 4s operated by the Department. There are no rental costs and costs of Ministry of Transport tests are £87.50.
