To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the curriculum development of social, political and moral subjects in the national curriculum; and how it will be structured.

Many of these themes will be covered by the attainment targets and programmes of study of the core and other foundation subjects; we can expect others to be included in the rest of what schools provide. Their place and development within the school curriculum as a whole, the purposes of which are set out in Clause 1 of the Bill, are matters on which the National Curriculum Council will be able to advise.
